Networking Events For The Week Of 7/5/10
ByNetworking events are below my tribute:
This post is a tribute to my father who passed away Sunday morning 6/27/10 at 5:35 AM from esophagus cancer. It is fitting a friend of mine said “he is now in the big church” as he died on a Sunday.
He was diagnosed two months ago with cancer and before that was playing golf twice a week and walking the coarse. He was able to shot his age every year since 1972 except for 1974. He turned 81 on June 3 and up to then was in great health.
My father was a retired Methodist minister and taught me many great lessons in life and I strive to become the man he became. My parents last year celebrated their 50th weeding anniversary. He affected so many lives in the world and had so many friends. I too have many friends and count all of you as my close friends as well.
Our minister came to the house, spent time with us, before they came for his body. My brother and sister all live here in Vancouver and we all went out for Sunday brunch at dad’s favorite breakfast hang out as mom has not left the house in many weeks taking care of him. My sister and I stayed till dinner and had popcorn and smoothies his favorite Sunday night meal in his honor.
The funeral service won’t be for about two weeks or so as he donated his body to OHSU for research continually teaching others as he has always done. We have some family that are on vacation and can’t make it till then, as there is no rush. The hospital will cremate his ashes and return them to us when done.
Thank you all for the support you have given me in this trying time. I truly appreciate all of you and call you my friends with great honor. I am blessed to have so many people around me as did my Father. I am open if you have questions to talk and there is no need to not know what to say. We were very open as a family and no subject was out of line. The following is a poem that I will always remember him by.
Robert H. Thomas
It came from your father, It was all he had to give,
So it’s yours to use and cherish as long as you may live.
If you lose the watch he gave you it can always be replaced,
But a black mark on your name, son, can never be erased.
It was clean the day you took it, and a worthy name to bear,
When I got it from my father, there was no dishonor there.
So make sure you guard it wisely, after all is said and done,
You’ll be glad the name is spotless, when you give it to your son!!!
I am proud of my son Zachary Thomas who just got his end of the year grades. He ended up for the year with a 3.905.
